Jayson 2003 Napa Valley Red Wine

A short review on a wine we had with dinner tonight.
Jayson 2003 Napa Valley Red Wine is produced by Pahlmeyer, and is a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc, 4% Petit Verdot, and 2% Malbec. It is made from the grapes/juice that is left over after producing the "big brother wine", Pahlmeyer Proprietary Red.

The wine is dark ruby red in the glass. The nose shows black cherry, plum, blackberry, and vanilla. The palate follows in it's path with black berries, oaky vanilla, and relatively smooth tannins that however shows notes of green wood. The nose is a step above the palate, which is a little thinner in the fruit at the finish then you are lead to believe.

Find this wine at Wine-Searcher.com from $ 59.99. For the price it is a pretty decent bottle, but there are certainly better wines in that price range out there.

Hey Victoria, quick wine question. I was thinking of making a chocolate red wine cake. Any suggestions for a good dry, slightly fruity red for something like that? The cake has a lot of cinnamon and cocoa, so it needs to be able to stand out but not decimate the flavors.

Hi Garrett! I would pick a lighter Pinot Noir such as Byron from Santa Maria Valley, or Gloria Ferrer from Carneros. They are both widely available in stores such as Safeway and Bel Air. You will usually find 2004 or 2005 available, vintage being of no greater importance. They are priced around $20 and are not to shabby as drinking wine in case you do not use it all for the cake... Let me know how it turns out!

Cheers, Victoria

I think everything posted was very logical.

However, what about this? suppose you were to create a killer title?

I am not suggesting your content is not solid, but what if you added a post title
that makes people want more? I mean "Jayson 2003 Napa Valley Red Wine" is kinda boring.
You ought to peek at Yahoo's front page and see how they write post headlines to grab viewers to click. You might add a related video or a picture or two to get readers excited about everything've got to say.
Just my opinion, it might bring your posts a little bit more interesting.
